The Best 5 Places to Have Coffee in Helsinki

Finding something new in your hometown – may it be a restaurant, a shop, or noticing a building that you have walked past hundreds of times actually has a beautiful facade from the 19th century – makes you realize that you are never done undiscovering your surroundings. Going on an adventure in your hometown can be something as simple as discovering a new café. Here you have our top five cafés to get you started exploring Helsinki.

Ipi Kulmakuppila is located in the neighbourhood of Kallio and serves delicious food and sandwiches made from high-quality ingredients. The big windows give a beautiful light that surrounds the whole café, and the staff is very friendly which adds to the cozy atmosphere. We highly recommend basking in the sun and enjoying their breakfast menu with spelt porridge and a big cup of coffee.

Kahvila Sävy is a hidden gem close to the Dallapé park in Sörnäinen. The coffee they use is in the heart of everything – you can buy coffee beans, filters, presses and machines – whatever you might need to become a self-taught barista. Besides from great coffee, the menu includes delicious pastries and snacks.

The motto says it all: ”Avoid bad life.” Good Life Coffee has a laid back and honest ambience at their coffee shop and roastery in Kallio, and they serve great coffee and pastries from local bakeries. Even if you are not an expert, you can taste the different notes of the roasted beans. They are experts in different roasting styles, and they sell their own roasted coffee beans so that you can enjoy a cup of your favorite coffee at home, too.

Päiväkahvibaari is a small café in the beautiful neighbourhood of Vallila, and the area is known for it’s centuries old wooden houses. They serve the best coffee in the area, which comes from their own roastery nearby in Teurastamo called Helsingin Kahvipaahtimo, Helsinki Coffee Roastery. The friendly atmosphere and the cool, rough décor makes this place stand out from the rest.

Cafelito is an authentic Spanish café in Sörnäinen. The owner is from Madrid, and here you can get the perfect café cortado, an espresso with a drop of foamed milk. You should also try the classic cheese sandwich, bocadillo de queso. Stopping by at Cafelito feels like a small trip to Madrid, and the tiles on the walls are beautiful!
